Is the Schwinn Recumbent Exercise Bike Worth Buying?

Why would anyone choose a Schwinn recumbent exercise bike? Recumbent exercise bikes are popular for several reasons. Recumbent models are a major part of the Schwinn line-up and there are several models to choose from. But why buy a Schwinn instead of one of the many other brands?

Bicycle Tool

Comfort

Bicycle Tool

Comfort is a main reason why someone chooses a recumbent exercise bike. Upright models are uncomfortable to many people. You know all your weight is right up over the seat riding right on the pelvic bones. A recumbent model usually has a larger more comfortable seat that puts the rider in a more reclining position. The Schwinn bikes are noted for comfortable seats. Schwinn bike designs use low bar frames so almost anyone can easily mount the bike. No high bars to get over.

Quiet

Schwinn recumbent exercise bikes use almost silent magnetic drives. A quiet drive with a comfortable seat lets you do other things while you pedal. You can read or watch movies while you ride since the bike is so quiet. Boredom stops a lot of exercise bike use. Fight boredom with a quiet comfortable bicycle.

Choices

Most of the Schwinn bikes are moderately priced. But Schwinn gives you quite a few choices. For example there is the popular Model 230. The 230 is one of Schwinn's more expensive bikes, but it's still moderate in price compared to the competition. The bike has a silent drive with 16 levels of resistance plus 6 preset programs and 10 profile sources. Stop boredom with all these workout options. If you want more options look at the Model 231 with 23 workout programs.

Durability

Schwinn has a long history of making rugged equipment. Make sure any bike you choose is heavy enough so it won't move around while you're riding. A cheap, light recumbent exercise bike is a waste of money since it's hard to ride. Plus a light weight bike will come apart under hard use and destroy itself. Get a well built bike with a reputation for quality electronics too. The electronics is an important part of the fun of using a bike.

A Schwinn recumbent exercise bike may be a good choice based on comfort, quiet, good selection of models and durability. Schwinn bikes aren't the cheapest, but the company offers good value. Schwinn sells so many machines that you can read consumer feedback from many customers on the Internet. You can read what many owners think.

My personal bike is a Schwinn and for twenty plus years I've hammered the same machine. Schwinn makes tough exercise bikes.

Give Your Child an Edge When Learning to Ride a Bike by Using a Balance Bike

Learning to ride a bike can be a daunting experience for a child, but the right approach to bike riding can make it a painless, fun experience for you and your child. To make this little life lesson as painless as possible, put the focus on the most important element of bike riding...balance.

Bicycle Tool

The most common mistake that parents make when teaching their child to ride a bike is either letting their child or themselves be drawn in by the "cool" bike or the princess bike that's just too big for their child's body. Even at age two-and-a-half a child can learn to ride, but they'll never be able to do it on a bike that's too large for them. For many years, balance bikes have been a popular option in Europe for teaching very young children to ride. These bikes are now becoming popular in the US as well.

Bicycle Tool

A balance bike (also known as a running bike or walking bike) has no pedals, chain or sprockets. It's self-propelled by the child and generally sits much lower to the ground than the conventional pedaled bike you might find in Wal-Mart. This low-profile seat allows the youngster to put their feet firmly on the ground and push themselves along the sidewalk or grass. Gradually they'll gain confidence and move their legs more vigorously, testing out their sense of balance and motor skills. In a very short time, most kids get the feel for balance and steering and coast around on the bike with ease.

Balance bikes come in both wooden and metal versions. The wooden balance bike is popular in Europe. It's toy-like construction often appeals to very young children and can be a great option for kids 2-3 years of age who possess the motor skills to begin the process of learning to ride. Even older boys and girls may find a connection between the wooden blocks, puzzles and toys they've enjoyed in the past and these wooden balance bikes.

Metal balance bikes are very similar to a conventional bike, but without the pedals, chain and sprockets. These bikes are much smaller than a standard bicycle, a key to making a boy or girl comfortable when introducing bike riding activities. The seat sits in a very low profile that allows even toddlers to put their feet firmly on the ground while seated.

Many metal balance bikes have foot rests that help kids keep their feet in a safe place when coasting and some even covert to pedal bikes with easy-to-use conversion kits.

If you have a child over the age of 8 who is still struggling to learn the art of riding a bicycle, you may want to consider converting their conventional bike into a running bike. Remove the pedals and lower the seat as low as possible. Start the child out on a very gradual incline and let them coast, feet skimming the ground until they reach the bottom of the hill.

Whatever approach you use to teach your child to ride a bike, the most important tool is your own encouragement and patience. Every successful coast of a few feet should be met with raucous cheers. Be encouraging, positive and supportive. Even with the assistance of a balance bike, learning to ride can be a frightening experience for a child.

Classic Bike Profiles - Suzuki Gs 750

Another great classic bike that you can find on today's market place for very low prices is the Suzuki Gs 750. The Suzuki Gs 750 was a fantastic mid-range bike produced from 1976 to 1983.

Bicycle Tool

The I'm quite the fan of the old Suzuki's, they may not be the most powerful or modern (for their production time), but they sure are fun to ride. The Suzuki Gs750 was introduced with an air-cooled DOHC 4 stroke engine that turned out about 63 horsepower. Not enough to break the speed of sound but plenty of pick-up for a sport bike this size.

Bicycle Tool

There are several models available starting with the 750 in '76-'78, GS750E in '79-'80, GS750L also '79-'80, and finally the GS750G and GS750GL in 1981. All had a 5-speed gearbox and a front disc rear drum brake setup.

One thing about Suzuki Gs motorcycles I am particularly fond of is their ability to handle abuse and provide good reliability. Especially for a rider today who wants to enjoy the classic style of a Gs750 yet doesn't want to spend every waking moment tuning the bike and making adjustments.

In fact the Suzuki Gs750 is a perfect candidate for restoration or customization as well. There are several Cafe kits available for those looking to relive the days when these bikes used to fly at crazy speeds down race tracks and many also go the bobber/chopper route as well. These bikes are very simple and easy to work on so customizing one to suit your tastes is something that can be tackled even by the somewhat inexperienced mechanics out there.

Now on to the ride.. The Suzuki Gs750 is a particularly stable and well handling bike that is capable of handling and stopping the power it puts out with ease. I still feel the brakes leave a little to be desired but that is fairly common of all older sport bikes.

The best part about these Gs750's is that they are not only abundant still today, but you can pick up very clean examples for under ,000 dollars and decent running bikes for ,000. At those prices why not add one to your collection?

ProForm Exercise Bike Critiques

ProForm exercise bikes belong within the entry-level, minimal price cost category. If you're a severe bike consumer or believe you will be then you're best advised to spend a little bit a lot more and look at another brand. Nonetheless, in several respects, these machines do offer value for dollars and could be well worth considering, but you will find some designs finest prevented.

Bicycle Tool

The cost of ProForm exercise bikes start at about 0 to 0 and their price tends to make them an appealing proposition for numerous. There are several designs on provide; some are really worth purchasing whilst others are greatest left on the shelf.

Bicycle Tool

There are 3 upright bikes to select from; the GR seventy five, GT 30 and GL 35, costing 0, 0 and 0 resp. Let's begin off by taking a look at the two less expensive models.

The GR 75 upright comes with far more functions than you could have very first believed. You get a 2-speed CoolAire exercise fan, magnetic resistance that will be increased or decreased with a push of the button, an EKG coronary heart charge keep track of that is incorporated in to the handle bars, and an RPM meter (revolutions per moment). The very best function will be the 4 private coach programs. They'll mechanically alter the resistance serving to you get the best out of your session.

You'll find no heart fee programs, which would be to be expected on such a low-cost machine but you do get a Goal Pacer which has arrows that light up on the console to allow you to know when to pick up your pace when you require to.

For its value it is an okay piece of kit and could be acceptable for a total newbie.

The GT 30 is really a various story. It costs the exact same because the GR seventy five but it is minus the 4 private trainer programs as well as the Goal Pacer feature. Its largest declare to fame is that's features a Step-In layout to allow easy entry on and off the bike, but the GR seventy five also includes a very similar style. If you've only obtained 0 to spend, get the GR75 and overlook concerning the GT 30.

Nevertheless, if you have got an additional 0 dollars inside your pocket, take a look at the GL 35. For starters, the shape with the handle bar permits for distinct grip positions. It also features a workout plan that may be custom-made to your personal requirements. Eventually, you will find optional iFIT exercises (these will cost your much more).

Should you want an upright, then contemplate both the GR 75 or GL 35 and if you can afford it, just look at the GL 35.

ProForm also makes three recumbent physical exercise bikes; the GR 80, GR 90 and GT a hundred and twenty. They price around 0, 0 and 0 resp.

Don't even bother taking a look at the GR 80. The seat does not have horizontal adjustment, some thing that is pretty significantly required on a recumbent bike. Sufficient stated.

The GR 90 comes with a CoolAire fan, a comfy sufficient seat, EKG Grip Pulse sensors, iFIT coaching programs and six Intelligent Programs. The GT 120 ultimately looks just like the genuine McCoy. The overall construct quality is good with an outsized, comfortable seat. You also get features for example CoolAire fan and iFIT personal instruction.

As to that is much better, the GR ninety or the GT 120, the answer is the a hundred and twenty is really a slightly far better built machine, but should you purchase the GR ninety you will be saving 0. Personally, I'd save the 0.

A ProForm physical exercise bike is low-cost and would be completely sufficient for initial time users who are unsure if they'll stick to making use of a bike. Deciding whether you want upright or recumbent is essential as is avoiding 1 or two with the designs pointed out above.

Best Bike Repair Stand for Mountain Bikes

I did an enormous amount of research when evaluating bike repair stands and learned a number of good pointers. When choosing a bicycle repair stand for a mountain bike, you need to keep in mind a few tips, which are not necessarily different than if you own a road cycle but are more prominent and important.

Bicycle Tool

I've listed them below in order of importance:

Bicycle Tool

#1 Stability is King

When buying a bike repair stand for any bicycle, you want it to hold your bike stable. Mountain bikes tend to weight more than the urban road cycles and as such you really need to watch that your stand will hold your bike well. Your stand should not tip over, it should not wobble and it should hold your bike solid no matter how much your bike weights. You may need to pay a little more for this quality, but you will be far happier than buying something cheap and having to upgrade later on.

#2 It is All About the Clamp

The second most important feature on a good stand is a good clamp. The clamp is the part of your stand that holds you bike at an elevated level and if you have a bad clamp on a good stand, then you have a bad stand. The clamp needs to be as solid as the stand and be functional enough so you can position your bike any which way you need it. If stability is King, your clamp is queen. For a heavier mountain bike, you again want to pay extra attention to getting a good one as a good stand will make you happy.

#3 Look For a Good Brand

Brand is important when it comes to bike repair stands because you will have so much more support and confidence with a good brand than if you buy a stand from a lesser known brand. A good brand has a reputation to protect, and their reputation depends entirely on you being happy with their product. With a mountain bike this is important because we tend to beat up our bikes on the trails more than our tamer urban brothers and sisters. This means you will use your stand more often, and it will suffer more wear and tear in the long run. If something on the stand breaks somewhere down the road, the company behind the brand will likely fix your stand or replace it for free. Good brands come with warranties. Stands from lesser brands often do not. In most cases, you do get what you pay for.

#4 Read What Others Have to Say

It is hard to test a bike repair stand, especially if you are buying online. Read what others who have used it before you have to say about the product. You should be able to find a stand with an almost perfect review rating, and if you do, you know you will be happy too. If there are a few complaints, unsatisfied customers or heaven forbid comments about their stand wobbling and being flimsy, avoid that one and move on to the next. Good stands are not hard to find, in fact with very little research you can determine the better ones out there by reading the reviews.

If you follow these four simple but useful tips, you should do well. My own personal choice that I can recommend is the Park Tool PCS-10 Repair Stand which met all of the above pointers, and Park Tool is known for being the better brand in the industry. This stand does well, even with the larger mountain bikes and is good for the price. There are others out there too that will work for you if you look around. Use the above guide as well as some common sense and you will find a stand that suits your needs well.

Dirt Bike Maintenance

Dirt bikes need regular maintenance to ensure optimum performance and longevity. Each brand is different, so it is important to refer to the service manual for your particular bike. There are specific areas on every dirt bike which should be checked regularly to keep it running smoothly. These areas include the oil, air filter, tires, wheels, brakes, and carburetor. You should take care about your dirt bike maintenance.

Bicycle Tool

The oil needs to be changed much more frequently on a dirt bike than on a street bike or a car. An oil change should include a filter and needs to be done based on the hour schedule in the owner's manual. Doing this regularly with the correct, quality motorcycle specific oil is critical for the life of your dirt bike.

Bicycle Tool

Air filters are subject to an extremely dirty environment. They should be checked and often cleaned after every trip. Not doing this critical procedure will allow dirt into the engine, which can eventually destroy it.

When checking the tires, you should insure that the tire pressure is correct, per the user manual. There should be no cuts in the tire and the tread or knobs should be in good shape.

The wheels should not have any missing spokes, and they should not feel loose or bent when you spin them. There should not be any dents or chips in the rim through which air can leak.

It is important to check that the wheels fully lock when the brakes are applied. There should be adequate brake fluid in the master cylinders and the fluid should be clean. Brake pads and liners should be checked to make sure they are in good condition.

The vent hoses in the carburetor should not be melted or clogged with mud. Check to make sure the throttle cable is not frayed or kinked. Occasionally rebuilding a motorcycle's carburetor should be done, especially prior to a new off-road season. When disassembling a carburetor, make sure that fluids have not seeped inside the floats. The tip of the float needle should be in good condition, and the air passages at the bottom of the bell mouth should not be clogged with dirt or oil.

Washing the dirt bike should be a part of routine maintenance, especially after a day of cross country biking. You can wash your bike easily with a garden hose, as long as you are careful to avoid getting water into the air box or seals. After washing, you can dry the bike with a towel or compressed air. The engine can be started briefly to dry the exhaust pipe, engine, and carburetor. After the bike is dry, it is helpful to lubricate the chain and spray rust inhibitor on bolts and other exposed steel parts.

If you find your bike needs work you cannot do on your own, you may need to hire a technician. When choosing an individual or company to service your bike, it is helpful to evaluate the services they offer and their turnaround time, as well as the cost for parts and labor. It is also a good idea to get references from friends and fellow dirt bike enthusiasts.

How to Choose the Right Bicycle Guide

Buying a new bicycle can be a tedious task. Buying a new bike is like purchasing a vehicle, the more effort you put into the purchase, the more satisfaction that you'll have in the long run.

Bicycle Tool

There are three main factors when purchasing a new bike; weight, cost, and durability.

Bicycle Tool

First, determine the purpose of buying a bike. Do you want to use the bike for commuting? How about mountain bike riding? Do you want to perform tricks on a bike? Determine which type of a rider you are is the first step in purchasing a bike.

The weight of a bike is what most advanced riders are concerned about when buying a bike. The price difference between a 22 pound bike and 23 pound bike can be considerably large. If you are a beginner and are planning on doing recreational and "light" riding, choosing a bike that is a bit heavier and cheaper is the right option as you do not need to spend a fortune on a bike with functions you'll never use.

Should you buy a bike from a bike shop or from a discount store? This depends on if you want to hand assemble your bike or have a professional assemble it. When you purchase your bike from a discount store, most of the time your bike is in a box and hand assembly is required. Likewise if you do pay additional money to get your bike assembled at the discount store, most of the employees are not bike mechanic professionals, this will result in you paying double as you will have to take your bike to a bike shop to repair your bike. There have been times where people have purchased their bikes from a discount store and went mountain biking and the first dip that they encountered resulted in a totaled bike.

Choosing quality over price is an important factor in our price sensitive society. However choosing the cheaper bike is not always the best option as costly repairs can add up. If you purchase a more expensive bike from a licensed bike store, minor repairs are usually free and most times bikes purchased from a real bike shop do not break as often.

Make sure you test ride the bike before purchasing it. Here are a few tips when test riding a bike. Is the bike to high for you? Your knees should be slightly bent when riding. If your knees are locked when riding, the bike is too tall for you. Is it comfortable? If you are not an advanced rider, then choose a bike that is comfortable (bigger seats). Are the gear shifters responsive? Make sure to shift through all the gears at a medium speed. Do a "hard-stop" with the bicycle when moving at a fast rate. Do the breaks squeak? Are they responsive? These are factors you should take into consideration. Test the durability of the bike by riding on uneven ground and on the dirt. There's nothing like purchasing a bike and noticing later that it does not respond well on uneven terrain.

This article went over some key factors when choosing a bike. Make sure to check the purpose of the bike, weight, durability and cost. Remember that cost is important, but it shouldn't be the main factor when purchasing your new bicycle.

BMX Bike Differences

If you have been riding bicycles for years and are starting to get a bid bored, you may want to think about BMX biking. This type of riding focuses mainly on racing, tricks and jumps and can be a lot of fun if it is done correctly and safely. The first way to ensure that you are being safe is to buy a good bike. The biggest factor to consider before you begin looking at bikes is how much you can spend. Determining your budget before hand will point you in the right direction whether that be new or used. If you do opt for a used bike for financial reasons, make sure you know where you are getting it from. Find out as much about the history of the bike as you possibly can and if the previous owner had any accidents or problems with the bike. While it is great to save money, you do not want a bike that has had problems in the past.

Once you have decided how much you can spend, you must ask yourself a few questions. What will your primary activity be on the bike, will you be racing it or just doing tricks? Where will you be using your bike most of the time, will you be on streets, on dirt roads or at a skate park? After you answer these questions, you are ready to go shopping.

"BMX" has become a generic term for all bikes associated with the sport. There are actually three types of bikes, a BMX bike, a freestyle bike and a dirt jumper. BMX bikes are ideal for dirt track racing. Freestyle bikes are used for performing tricks in skate parks and dirt jumpers are a hybrid BMX and freestyle bike. These are used for jumping ramps and staying on local trails. These three types of bikes have different makeups which make them better for their respective uses. For example, BMX bikes have lighter wheels than freestyle of jump bikes so that you can accelerate faster when racing. Tires are also different on BMX bikes so they can grip the road better when traveling on dirt trails at high speeds. A difference can also be found in the brakes. BMX and jumper bikes generally have just rear brakes while freestyle brakes have both front and rear.

No matter where you will be riding and what you will be doing with your bike, speak to a sales professional at your local bike shop. They can help you determine what bike is best for your needs.

These exercise bikes also feature the exclusive and very user-friendly Tunturi monitor which provides you with many options and a wide array of functions. It has the Heart Rate Control (HRC) programs which can be used for an efficient, but especially safe, training.

There is also a chest strap that you can use for an accurate heart rate measurement which is included in the bike's accessories. Another great feature that is included is the 3.8" LCD T-Ride display console which can be used to be able track your workout time, speed, distance, heart rate, energy consumption and effort.
